September: Jazz in Johannesburg

2 September: ** Ashish Joshi, Greg Georgiades and Steve Newman are at Tanz Café (Bryanston) from 8:30-11pm.

3 September: ** Gloria Bosman (vocals) will perform at The State Theatre (Pretoria) from 9-11pm. Tickets from R60-R80.

3 September: ** Louis Mhlanga will perform at ‘The Oude Meeste Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening in The Birchwood Hotel (Boksburg) from 9-11pm.

5 September: ** A Jazz Quartet plays at The Groennkloof Spring Festival (Jan Cilliers Park, Wenning Street, Groenkloof), from 11am till 10pm.

9 September: ** The Black Cat Bones will play blues at Tings & Times (1065 Arcadia Street, Pretoria), two more bands will be on stage. Starts at 8:30-11:30pm.

10 September: ** Mulatu Astatke (Ethiopia) in the Wits Great Hall, (Wits University, Braamfontein). Tickets are R145 (R80 for Wits students) from the Wits Theatre box office and Badia Productions (072 246 3814). Featured are Ayanda Sikade (drums), Herbie Tsoaeli (bass), Sidney Minisi (saxophone) and James Arben (oboe and clarinet).

16 September: ** Live Jazz Band, featuring Rudine Geer (Voice), Riaan le Roux (Guitar), Pule Makona (Keys), Riaan Diedericks (Drums), Werner Spies (Bass), performs at +27 Design Café (corner South & Duncan Street, Hatfield, Pretoria). Bring your own wine for a small corkage of R10 per bottle, from 7-11pm.

16 September: ** Asanda Bam (vocals) features Luyanda Madope (keys), Tlale Makhene (percussions) and Nkanyezi Cele (drums) at The Blues Room (Sandton) from 7:30pm. Entry fee is R70.

17 & 18 September: ** Tonik’s Wireless Silent Gigs are live at The Bioscope (286 Fox Street, JHB), from 7:30pm-10:30pm. Entrance is R100.
